Whispering interpreters
In practice, whispered interpreting with or without technical aids is used very often for smaller events and meetings – a method in which the translation is relayed almost instantly and discreetly. In certain situations, such as when translating political statements, consecutive interpreting is also used.
Whispering interpreters at Quality Translation

Whispered interpreting with and without technical equipment
Whispered interpreting can be done with or without technical aids. In its most traditional form, whispered interpreting requires no technology; the interpreter whispers the translation directly into the ear of the listener, which is possible for one to two people at a time. For situations in which more than two people require translation, technology comes into play. By using a portable interpreting set or a mobile tour guide system, consisting of a headset, microphone and receiver, the translation can be transmitted to a larger group without disturbing those not requiring translation.
Chuchotage interpreters for a variety of events and topics
The flexibility of whispered interpreting makes it an ideal solution for a variety of occasions and topics. Whether it's a large, conference held in English and attended by a guest from Italy, a tour or visit with a small number of foreign-language participants, a business lunch, a court hearing, police investigations or hospital situations - Quality Translation's chuchotage interpreters ensure that everyone involved understands the communication clearly and effectively.

Advantages and disadvantages of working with whispering interpreters
Whispered interpreting is cost-effective and flexible , as it does not require a booth, and allows for immediate, discreet translations. However, it can be tiring for the interpreter and disturbing for bystanders. Therefore, the positioning of the interpreter is crucial for clear acoustics. Technical aids can compensate for some disadvantages. However, this method is not suitable for all situations, especially multilingual meetings with relay interpreting , where booths are technically necessary.
What is relay interpreting?
At conferences involving more than two languages, several interpreting booths are required. Each interpreting team is responsible for one language and interprets in both directions. If an interpreter does not understand the original audio but relies on a colleague’s interpretation, this is known as relay interpreting. For example: an interpreter who does not speak Italian listens to their colleague’s translation from Italian into German and then interprets this into English.

Prices for whispering interpreting
Our prices for whispered interpreting are based on a daily rate that includes preparation time. Travelling expenses and meals may be charged separately. Whispered interpreting is a sub-form of simultaneous interpreting and is a particularly demanding task. It requires maximum concentration over a long period of time and thorough preparation; moreover, whispering is more strenuous than speaking at a normal volume. We take this responsible and complex activity into account in our fair and transparent pricing.
